Asia, the Earth’s largest and most populous continent, captivates with its extreme climatic variations. Home of the world’s oldest civilizations. Its vast coastline and diverse environments foster unparalleled vegetation and animal life. Covering 30% of the land area, Asia promises a unique exploration of nature and culture for travelers.
It would probably take anybody a lifetime to travel through all of the corners of this amazing continent. The best way to explore is by region. If you are interested in cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong or Singapore. Or to immerse yourself into temples like in Kyoto and Miyajima. Or simply relax in one of those paradisiac beaches in Boracay or Phuket, to name a few. Asia has everything from budget to luxury.
Here is where we have traveled in 3 years living in Asia. What we would do again, what we wish we had done and our next adventures to come.
Climate: The climate varies greatly across Asia, from the arctic cold of Siberia to the tropical warmth of Southeast Asia. It encompasses every climatic zone including temperate, arid, and tropical monsoon climates.
Location: Asia is located primarily in the Eastern and Northern Hemispheres, sharing the continental landmass of Eurasia with Europe and the landmass of Afro-Eurasia with both Europe and Africa. It is bounded by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the east, and the Indian Ocean to the south.
Best time to visit
Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand) : Usually November to February is the dry season. Avoid May to October monsoon season
East Asia (China, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau): March-May, September-November
South Asia: between November and February, drier and cooler seasons. I would avoid March to June is the hottest and humid season
Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan): May-June/ September-November dry and mild. July and August, hot in the cities but just right for trekking in the mountains
